What to Expect After You Schedule a Consultation

You made the call and you have a consultation scheduled, and you're thinking: what is the next step? Well, this blog post is intended to give you a little guidance. Consultations at Skyward Counseling LLC are typically an hour in length and this is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and see if it is a good therapeutic fit. I will often ask you what brings you in, and what your expectations for therapy are. If this is your first time in therapy it might be a little disarming to discover that therapeutic conversations are not a series of questions, but rather an exploratory and reflective process. This consultation session is a time for you to ask me any questions that you might have about the process, my orientation or background, or logistics of scheduling, parking, etc. We will paint the broad strokes of what it will be like to work together. During this time I will be assessing whether I can help you, or if another therapist might be more aligned with your needs.

At the end of the consultation, I will check in with you and see what your thoughts are about the hour. If we both believe that it will work then we will schedule a time for a first session, and I will send you a virtual link to the HIPAA protected online portal, Simple Practice. There you will complete the intake paperwork, disclosure statement, credit card authorization form, and HIPAA form. Simple Practice is the software that I use to ensure that all of your records are kept secure and confidential. If you have any questions about these forms, please don't hesitate to email, text, or call me. After you complete these forms, you are officially my client, and I will see you at our first appointment!

If you have any questions throughout this process please don't hesitate to call, text, or email.

Please note: I charge a $50 no-show fee for consultations. Please notify me as soon as possible if you would like to cancel or reschedule your consultation.
